Mermaid Artists
Mermaids
are part of a fantasy world in which many people have been inspired
to write and paint images of. Mermaids are beautiful creatures and
remain a mystical part of a world of fantasy that continues to give
life to the deeper realms of our dreams and imagination. There have
been many illustrators of mermaids over the years, here are some
of the more popular ones.
Howard Pyle was
born in 1853. His art was part of what was called "art nouveau"
style. He used watercolors. One of his illustrations was of a mermaid
sharing a passionate kiss with a pirate. Pyle was not only a great
artist, but he wrote some of his own books and stories. Many of
his books have been considered classics, such as "The Adventures
of Robin Hood. " One of the final books he illustrated was
Saint Joan of Arc, by the great Mark Twain.
John
Waterhouse's mermaid sitting on the beach combing her long dark
red hair depicted how alluring both women and the sea are to man.
This
hypnotizing duos are believed to be the basis of luring unsuspecting
sailors under the depths of the oceans for the purpose of sacrifice
and information. Born in Rome to artist parents. He spent most of
his life in Italy and his love for the country came forth in his
paintings.
Raoul Dufy was
famous for his sea side paintings. Many of them give us a sense
of gentleness and gaiety. Dufy wasn't fully credited among his peers
until The Salon D'autonne exhibition in 1907. He was admired most
for how his pictures depicted architecture so eloquently through
his use of color.
