The Best Demon Books
The Servants of Twilight
by Dean Koontz
This
book has a different kind of demon. He
does not have fiery breath and a grotesque
look. The demon in this book is not yet
developed into a raging beast. He is just
a child...or is he?
It is a regular Sunday
afternoon and Christine is returning to her car after shopping with
her six-year-old son Joey. They are approached by an old woman.
She seems nice and very politely asks them a few questions. Then
the woman suddenly attacks Joey, frantically screaming, "He's
got to die! He's got to die!"
Grace, the old woman
who attacked Joey is the leader of a religious cult called the Servants
of Twilight. A group of fanatics who believe the Antichrist is coming.
Grace believes that Joey is the Antichrist and that he must be destroyed.
Christine hires Charlie Harrison, a private detective to protect
them. Grace's followers are large and powerful. They soon find their
homes and businesses destroyed and under constant attack from the
pursuit of the Twilighters. Each narrow escape is follow by new
terror.
The Servants of twilight
has an interesting story and good tension. The writing style is
nice and simple which gives the book a feel of a scary campfire
story mixed with a masterpiece of terror. It manages to maintain
a good level of tension and excitement throughout the novel as Christine,
Charlie and Joey run from never ending danger.
