The Best Wizard Book
The
Fires of Merlin
By T. A. Barron
The
Fires of Merlin is the third of Barron's Lost Years of Merlin series.
It can be read on its own but it is recommended to read the two
prequels first, The Lost Years of Merlin and The Seven Songs of
Merlin. The action is never ending. It starts out with Merlin trying
the psaltery that he has created, hoping that it will unleash his
magic. This peace does not last and he is soon rushing through a
set of fast-paced and unrelenting adventures.
After years and years
of battle the dragon Valdearg, Wings of Fire, was put to sleep by
Merlin's grandfather, the wizard Tuatha. Now someone has killed
Valdearg's offspring. That awakens the dormant dragon and invites
him to seek revenge. He is led to believe that Merlin was the culprit.
Merlin must find a way to defeat him this sinister creature without
magic and despite a prophecy that predicts death for the dragon's
slayer.
Merlin is a strong and
compassionate hero willing and ready to sacrifice himself for the
good cause. Barron leads the good into suffering. Through the power
of understanding and without the use of his powers, the magnificent
Merlin succeeds. Merlin also learns a lot about himself in the process.
