The Best Mermaid Movies
The
best mermaid movie without a doubt is Splash (1984). The movie starred
Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah. The movie begins in 1959 when a young
mermaid rescues a little boy on the verge of drowning. Twenty-five
years later Tom Hanks, who plays the grown up boy, is a fine young
man in bustling New York City. The mermaid played by Darryl Hannah,
is the equally grown up half fish woman. She has come out of the
watery depths in search of Tom Hanks, who she has fallen in love
with.
Once
on dry land, Darryl Hannah calls herself Madison. She gets this
name from a New York street sign. She has legs and can walk around
like a normal human. The big problem is that if she has any contact
at all with salt water, she will revert to her mermaid status.
They do find each other
and both are in love when a sinister mastermind (Eugene Levy) believes
he can kidnap the mermaid and dissect her. He manages to capture
her and begins testing. Tom Hanks, with the help of his brother
(John Candy) set forth an operation to rescue his love. He succeeds
in his endowers and the two escape to be blissfully joined in the
ocean.
