The History of UFOs
& Spaceships
The
first documented UFO sighting occurred in 1561 in Nuremberg, Germany.
It was described to be red, blue, and black shapes in the sky. In
1947 the phrase flying saucer was coined. The first person to describe
it as looking like a saucer was a man named Kenneth Arnold. He was
flying a private airplane in Washington and he described what he
had seen by saying, " the objects were moving like a saucer
skipping across the water." Since then it has become popular
to use the term "flying saucer." Most sightings could
be explained away but there are some that became classified information.
In
1948 the United States Air Force began the government's first official
UFO panel, Project Sign, which studied 243 sightings. This panel
changed over the years from Project Grudge, to Project Blue Book.
There were scientists, engineers, meteorologists, and astronomers
on the panel.
UFO
sightings had people scared. People claimed in some cases to have
been abducted by these extraterrestrial beings. Canadian records
had totalled about 750 sightings in the 1960's. Exobiology is a
branch of biology that deals with the search for extraterrestrial
life outside our solar system. The entertainment world has given
us their own view of UFO's and aliens by giving us movies like E.T.
and Alien. They say there is truth to every legend and people who
have declared to be witnesses to UFO sightings will tell you they
will never forget the experience.
