Mermaids
(mer-mayds) A water dwelling creature with the upper
body of a woman, and the lower body of a fish. Mermaids
live under the sea, coming up to the surface only when necessary.
They fear their race will be destroyed by humans if discovered.
Mermaids
have the ability to assume human form temporarily. They can turn
human permanently only if touched by true love from a human being.
In rare instances some mermaids and mermen (their counterparts)
have totally eliminated their underwater lives for the love of
a human and have gone on to have careers and families.
Possessing
great charm and beauty, some mermaids are believed to lure unsuspecting
sailors under the depths of the oceans for the purpose of sacrifice
and information. The information gathered is crucial to their
existence. For fear of being discovered, they do not release the
humans back to their natural habitant, instead they dispose of
them.
The
mermaid world possesses billions of dollars in gold and jewels.
They retrieve these priceless gems when a sunken ship falls into
their reach. Mermaids do not realize the value of suck artifacts,
only that they possess great beauty and necessity in their eyes.
They use these precious stones and metals for building and creating
things.
