Cool Designs X-Files #23877

October 5th, 1987, Fred Mclynn was sent to the Bellevue Hospital in Portland, Maine for psychiatric evaluation. He was committed for mental insanity. Doctors and professionals both agreed that Fred was crazy. The prime basis for that prognosis was the testimony that Fred gave that early October morning.

"The colors needed food," he stated. "They asked me to get it for them. I had no money and no choice. They said they would kill me I didn't obey them."

Fred seemed like a regular all American high school student. Average grades, simple girlfriend and regular friends. He loved comic books and that is where this story seems to lead. Fred bought about twenty to thirty dollars worth of comic books each week. He and his friends bargained and traded books regularly.

Fred claimed that one day earlier that year, while he was reading a comic book called Strange Highways, he was suddenly plunged into a world of mysterious colors and shapes. The callers spoke to him and took shapes of demons. They were stuck in a two dimensional world but claimed they were going to die if they didn't get some kind of food, soon. They told him that if they were going to die that they would take Fred with them.

In a frightened state, Fred told his parents that he needed to buy food for the colors. They immediately thought that he was on drugs. He ran to his friends for financial support. They laughed and thought he was joking. In a desperate move Fred held up a local super market. Two blocks later, Fred was arrested for robbery.

Fred is now under supervision as he claims his story is true. Even when given the option, 'admit you are lying about the colors and we will let you go free.' Fred sticks to his story. A lie detector test proves he believes his own story.
